Pause and celebrate even the little steps in your journey

The holiday season is a perfect time to pause and reflect on the year – the milestones we've achieved and the paths we've navigated. Whether you're a seasoned leader or just stepping into your role, every step forward is something to acknowledge and be grateful for.

Be thankful for growth.

If you've recently landed a promotion, think about the journey that brought you here. It's not just a step up – it's a testament to your abilities, resilience, and reputation. Pause. Take a moment to acknowledge those efforts and the support of those who've helped you along this path.

Consider the journey - and the work.

For those who have invested time and energy into self-discovery through assessments, like the Birkman Method, consider the journey and the work. You’ve learned more about what makes you unique—your strengths, what you need, and how you act under stress. Pause.

Acknowledge your investment and the growth you’re welcoming. This knowledge is powerful and will enable you to lead with more empathy and clarity.

Appreciate the bravery.

For some, this year has meant stretching beyond our comfort zones—speaking up more, taking on bigger challenges, or having more confidence in your abilities. Pause. Recognize the courage it takes to step beyond the familiar. Each small act of bravery is a building block in your future.

Let's celebrate the small steps in the larger journey.

As the year closes and the holidays give us moments to reflect, let’s be thankful for these experiences. They are not just singular achievements. They are blocks that construct stronger, more resilient selves ready for a journey of growth that doesn’t end with a promotion or a singular moment of success. They shape us, teach us, and—most importantly—connect us with others.

As you gather with your teams, families, and friends, share stories and celebrate the collective spirit that empowers and uplifts us.

Here's to a season of gratitude and the journeys that await us!

Mapping the Invisible Org Chart
The Politics of Progress   Author: Onika WilliamsRead Time 5-min | Read post online You leave the meeting thinking alignment happened. The strategy was solid, concerns were addressed, heads nodded around the room, and nobody openly pushed back. But then within 48 hours, the energy changes. Responses slow down, a stakeholder suddenly “needs more time,” and a decision – one that sounded settled ...
Conflict Without Casualties: Why This Still Feels Hard
Author: Onika WilliamsRead Time 4-min | Read post online I wrote about conflict last year – how it builds trust, how it surfaces what’s real, and how avoiding it slows everything down. You read it. You got it. You probably even agreed with it. And still… here we are. Because the issue isn’t whether you understand conflict. It’s how you’re showing up when it actually happens. You Can Feel It. ...
Why Great Leaders Struggle At Home
The leadership you measure at work often goes unexamined at home. Author: Onika WilliamsRead Time 4-min | Read post online Some of the most respected leaders I know struggle the most at home. Not because they don’t care. Not because they’re bad partners, parents, or friends. But because the leadership they practice all day at work often disappears the moment they walk through their front door.
