What is Executive Coaching?

I’m often asked, “What is an executive coach?”
Well, it’s similar to any coach. We’re here to help you professionally – even if you’re not an executive. It’s not a title, it’s a skill.
Acting as an executive in an organization requires knowing yourself, knowing your business, solving problems, and solving for what’s next. You’ll need to know yourself to do that. You’ll have to know what makes you unique and what you’re working to improve on.
The Difference
What’s different is how we do this. Executive coaches don’t teach you a skill – like athletic coaching or motivational coaches. We listen. We listen to help you identify what you bring to others. We help you identify what’s holding you back. No one is the same. There isn’t one mold or one single way to improve.
In short, Executive Coaches help leaders hone their leadership and personal skills to lead and manage better. Every leader has a different purpose for seeking executive coaching, common reasons include:
- Growth in their careers
- Improved team leadership
- Methods to work better with different personalities
- Charting career trajectory
What is involved?
The relationship with an executive coach is a partnership – just coach and client. Often, though, an employer or mentor sponsors and becomes an influence and a helpful party to this relationship.
In executive coaching, I’m not the expert. The subject is you, and you’re the expert at you. I’m a listener, a locksmith, a guide to unlocking the skills and strengths you already have.
Your coach will partner with you by asking tough, powerful questions, actively listening, acting as a sounding board, finding and challenging your blind spots, and promoting shifts in thinking that unveil new outlooks on work and life.
Why should you consider executive coaching?
Executive coaching is about driving action – setting goals, creating outcomes, and managing personal change. If you’re looking to improve your communication skills, lead more effectively, and reconsider your mindset, seek out a coach. It will help you set goals – and achieve them. The experience will help you take the next step in your career – or the career you actually want.
Executive coaching should not be confused with therapy, consulting, mentoring, training, or athletic development. This is bigger and broader than mentoring. This doesn’t come with pre-conceived agendas or bottom-line targets. This will help you get where you’re going – not where someone else hopes you will.
How can I help you?
Throughout my career, I’ve personally seen the impact and power an executive coach can have. In fact, that is why I pursued certification as an executive coach to make this available to leaders. I wanted others to benefit from the results I had experienced with an executive coach. I have seen results with businesses, teams, and individuals. I want to serve and make impact with leaders directly.
